I've been blogging for several years now and only recently have created a blog of my own. Being a technologist, I deal with security issues every day. The firm I work for has built its reputation on security and has incredibly tight controls in place to ensure information, data and customer data is protected not only while in storage but in transit.
I am also a genuine person. I love my family (this includes my step daughters and my wife, now getting divorced). Helping people gives me a sense of gratification, accomplishment and a sense that I have helped make someones life easier, if only for a moment. If I have the means, I will do whatever I can to help someone; most of the time only saying thank you is all I need to hear. This brings me to the point of this post.
I am always careful with the information I put out on the internet, blogs or other medium. The last thing I want is for someone to know every little detail about my life or the lives of my family and friends. For people close to me, they might know who I am referring to. For those not close, would have no idea who I am referencing and thus... information and identities are protected. That said however, if you are a public figure or are in the news I will mention names. It's public information.
Last weekend I posted on this blog how my weekend was. That I was glad I got to catch up with my in-laws and see my step daughter play in her show. Because I did not mention names, I was being mean and thus torn down by the very person who I not only miss, love and care about but who's family and daughter I was referring to! Many people have read the blog since it was posted and only by one person was it taken as a negative or nasty message.
What I posted was not wrong, not done out of spite or any ill will at all. I am comfortable knowing that my message was sincere, just and said in kindness. I also will not change my own code of ethics for blog posting. It is for many reasons I don't post names and for that I will not apologize or justify any further.
